Climate change and the impact on our choice of plants

Trees in cities are becoming more important again - at the same time, highly compressed, often nutrient-poor soils, little root space, car exhaust fumes, high radiation intensity as well as accumulated heat or waterlogging impair the growth conditions of many street trees. The more important is the future-oriented selection of stress-resistant trees that can withstand these adversities in the long term. Depending on the situation, a versatile planting concept can be the solution to ensure the sustainable success of your project despite moderate or poor plant locations.

Climate change and the resulting extreme weather conditions as well as violent weather changes have become a real challenge for urban plantings. Not all trees that have proven their resistivity in the past are still suitable for city use. In our cultures, we have a wide range of fit for the future trees, i.e. plants that are classified as particularly resistant by research institutes, ready for you. We would be happy to advise you on the selection of the best trees in order to minimize the risk of failure due to drought, heat or frost, but also due to pests and diseases.

The trees and shrubs used should not only be robust, but also be beneficial to local biodiversity. While the cityscape in many places is characterized by only three to six species, in the future a greater variety of plants, individually adapted to the location, will be required in order to offer the local fauna an adequate habitat and to prevent large-scale losses from pests and disease.

Our range of climatic trees includes a wide selection, such as Liquidambar styraciflua, Parrotia persica or Tilia intermedia ‘Pallida’. Discover your options here on our website or let us advise you individually.
